#LightforLIMA aims to create as much prayerful focus as possible on this critical COP20 meeting for the climate negotiations which takes place in Lima this December.
Currently, vigils have been confirmed in places in all continents, and more are to be confirmed. If you are able to organise a vigil yourself, that would be great! If there is no time for this, please consider the option of lighting a green candle during your service or worship. For example, you could light a green candle alongside the 2nd Advent candle on Sunday 7th December. We have posted Archbishop Thabo Makgoba’s prayer below, which could be shared when the candle is lit.
If you choose to participate, please inform OurVoices at ourvoices.net/lima so they can communicate the scale of support for the LIMA gathering.
Also, please take a picture of your green candle and share it online with #LightForLIMA.
PRAYER FOR THE FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Spirit of God, You established the dance of Creation;
bring life out of death
bring order out of chaos.
Call us to radical action:
to care for the web of Creation
to share our resources justly
and to work for the renewal of our Mother, Earth.
We light this candle as we commit ourselves to fast and pray for climate justice.
– Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, Cape Town
